Bollards to road confusion!

THE new signs at Metrolink’s crossing at Mumps
SIGNS have been installed at Metrolink’s Mumps crossing following the Chronicle’s highlighting of a spate of “wrong way” accidents on the tram lines.
The problem has arisen because the line entrances are immediately before the road turning and motorists have been confusing the two, only realising too late - when their car is stuck on the tracks - that they have turned too soon.
At least four cars have driven on to the line since December — each time leaving the network’s Manchester to Rochdale line shut down temporarily.
In March, Transport for Greater Manchester said all possible safety measures were in place and additional precautions had been installed.
Director Peter Cushing blamed bad driving. But several Chronicle readers disagreed: one admitted he too had a narrow escape on the “confusing” track layout.
Another added: “It’s pretty obvious from the number of drivers this is happening to that there is an issue with road layout or signage.
“It’s far too easy for the authorities to pass the blame to motorists.”
Bollards have now been installed at both entrances to the tram lines on the roadabout, allowing tams through but not cars.
