Oldham’s “youth zone”, Mahdlo, now has its own set of wheels thanks to generous fundraisers across the borough.
Described as a dream come true by Mahdlo’s chief executive Helen Taylor, the 14-seater Ford Transit Minibus has been handed over to the centre by founding patron OMC Motor Group, and will allow staff to provide more services for young people, including groups visits for educational and recreational activities.
Several fund-raising events contributed to the new van, including a Mont Blanc climb from the four-strong “OwMad” group, and Saddleworth Rotary Club’s £1,000 donation from a casino-themed event.
Helen said: “This bus is going to make a huge difference to Mahdlo, as we’ll be able to bring children together from all parts of Oldham.
“This is something we’ve been dreaming of since day one and it’s come true.
Robin Eglin, a director of OMC, said: “I am really excited to be involved with Mahdlo, and I know that they are providing an excellent service in helping to develop the young people of Oldham.”
