Big thank-you to army of helpers
Date published: 31 May 2013
National Volunteers’ Week launches tomorrow, and to celebrate the annual campaign, Oldham organisations are saying a huge “thank you” to the millions of volunteers working up and down the country.
Running until June 7, Volunteers’ Week aims to raise awareness of the work volunteers do every day to help others, and to get more people giving their time back to the community.
Every year, more than 20 million people across England and the rest of the UK volunteer their time, donating more than 100 million hours to their local communities every week.
Age UK Oldham has organised two open days for people to go along to discover the many different areas within the organisation where volunteers are needed.
You can speak to other volunteers, service managers and members of staff within the organisation, who will be able to answer any questions you have and can explain all the volunteering roles.
Open Days:
Tuesday: at Age UK Oldham, 10 Church Lane, Oldham, 10am–3pm
Wednesday: at the Clock Café, Ellesmere Street, Failsworth, 10am–2pm
Voluntary Action Oldham is holding a conference: “Exploring Volunteering and Ex-Offenders”, to raise awareness of their services in the borough, on Wednesday at the Honeywell Centre, Ashton Road, from 11.45am-4pm. For more information, contact 0161-633 6222.
