A SUMMER crackdown on drink and drug-driving will be launched tomorrow by Greater Manchester Police.
Officers will set up check points for breath tests throughout Greater Manchester during June.
Officers carried out 7,326 breath tests in a similar exercise last June, resulting in 318 arrests. Of those 82 involved collisions. Anotherr 40 were arrested following roadside impairment tests.
The crackdown supports a national campaign to ensure the safety of the roads during the summer months.
Insp John Armfield said: “We want everyone to be able to enjoy the time safely while remembering their responsibilities while on the road. If you plan on having a drink while out or at a barbecue then don’t drive home. Friends and family members are also asked to stop loved ones driving if they have been drinking.
“People often forget the lasting consequences of these actions — life-changing disabilities, a criminal record or time behind bars and even death.”
