A KEEN sportsman who once beat a world champion in a frame of snooker has died aged 101.

Joe Lynch was born in Preston but moved to Oldham as a baby and lived in Derker and Greenacres.

Joe was an avid fan of cricket, football and rugby and used to enjoy playing billiards and snooker at what is now Hillbillies in Huddersfield Road.

It was here that he beat future world champion snooker player Joe Davis in a one-frame match.
