TWO carnival princesses WILL get to ride in a convertible in Failsworth’s carnival parade tomorrow following a U-turn by insurers.
The owner of the car involved was originally told her insurance wouldn’t be valid if she carried passengers in the parade. The late climb-down came after the Chronicle contacted insurers Tesco Bank to ask why.
Clare Wiener (40) of Denbydale Way, Royton, appealed for help after being told driving the two princesses in the 5mph parade was a “perceived increased risk.”
But after a call by the Chronicle, the insurance company agrees she will be covered — and offered her a £30 gift card for the inconvenience.
Clare said the company denied doing a U-turn but had simply made a mistake.
The mother-of-two only knew to contact her insurers about the event because she works in insurance herself. She had volunteered to help the a friend of a friend by carrying the youngsters two and a half miles along the parade route with the roof down — at a top speed of five miles an hour.
