A GREAT-GREAT grandma has been given a special surprise on her 100th birthday: her soldier great-grandson hand-delivered a card from his boss, the Queen!

Amy Robinson of Oaklands Rest Home in Royton, received the birthday card from Her Majesty courtesy of Kyle Blake, who turned up yesterday in his Household Cavalry red and blue uniform.

Kyle (23), a member of the Queen’s regiment based at Hyde Park barracks, has been in the Army for six years, including a stint in Afghanistan.

Five generations of Amy’s family including the latest, Kyle’s three-month-old daughter Maddison, went to the home to celebrate with Amy - who had donned her own tiara for the special day.

Amy’s granddaughter Beverley said: “I asked Kyle if he would present her 100th birthday card from the Queen, seeing as she’s his boss!”

Kyle added: “My great-gran doesn’t get to see me in my uniform much so I thought it would be nice for a special occasion.

“I think she is overwhelmed by everything and had no idea I would be coming to see her with the card.

“It meant everything to me to deliver it and spend the day with her.”

Amy, who has lived in Royton all her life, said: “It is absolutely marvellous to see Kyle in his uniform and it was a lovely surprise. I am surrounded by all of my loving relatives and the card from the Queen is beautiful.”
