PARTYGOERS soaked up the sunshine at a phenomenal Failsworth Carnival over the weekend.
Around 10,000 visitors flocked to the double-header at Lord Lane playing fields.
The fun began on Saturday with a colourful parade led by Oldham Band (Lees) and featuring carnival royalty, dancers, majorettes and sports clubs who collected money along the route.
Floats included zumba dancers, Hope Methodist Church’s pyjama party, cupcake bakers from Hope Rainbows and 101 Dalmatians from St John’s.
Partygoers queued to get on to the playing fields as the carnival weekend continued yesterday with dance and majorette competitions, stalls, Failsworth and St Michael’s brass band, a funfair, children’s craft tent, a climbing wall and carnival royalty.
Sunday’s attractions included a dog show, It’s a Knockout, sport and bonny baby, glamorous granny and handsome grandad competitions.
Takings were up on both the gate and the parade and the event is estimated to have raised around £3,200.
Carnival chairman Mel Garner added: “It’s been a tremendous success. Sometimes when it is so sunny, some people prefer to stay home and have a barbecue. But on Saturday they were here in their droves and yesterday was also extra special.”
