THERE was plenty of flan-flinging fun at Uppermill Sports Club when an amazing 537 participants took part in an attempt to break the world record for the biggest custard-pie fight.
They fell short by 147 - but club treasurer Tracey Barlow, who organised the stunt as part of her 50th birthday celebrations, said: “It went fantastically well — we decided to forget the world record, but we beat the European record!”
The event was part of a fun day at the club with live music and other attractions, and raised more than £2,500 for Cancer Research with more money still to come.
“I didn’t want my birthday this year to be about me,” said Tracey, from Greenfield.
“I wanted to give something back. We all know somebody who has been touched by cancer is one way or another. I am no exception.
The official Guinness world record was set in Texas when 684 took part.
