Reece Shearer: pool cue skewered his hand
A TEENAGER suffered a serious hand injury when he used a damaged pool cue at Royton Youth Centre.
Reece Shearer underwent delicate surgery at Wythenshawe Hospital to repair the nerves in his left hand and remove internal splinters after part of the cue went through the skin between his thumb and first finger.
Furious dad John Shearer is now refusing to allow Reece (16) and his 15-year-old brother Dylan to return to the club in Chapel Street until it has carried out a full safety check.
Mr Shearer, of Norwood Crescent, said: “A member of staff told Reece the pool cue had been reported broken earlier that day. I am so angry that it hadn’t been taken away.
“This was totally avoidable — you know the cue is broken so take it out of harm’s way.
“Reece is still in a lot of pain and the antibiotics he has to take are making him feel ill.
“ He is doing his GCSEs at the minute so he is going to struggle with his last few exams.
“Reece and Dylan go to the youth club a lot and as a parent, you think it is a safe place to send your children. Obviously not.”
