MACMILLAN Cancer Support was the big winner as four members of Werneth Golf Club completed a 72-holes-in-a-day charity challenge.
The fundraiser was spearheaded by Mike Cocker after his seven-year-old grandson, Alex Vaughan, was diagnosed with leukaemia in January.
Alex took a break from treatment to meet up with the quartet and give them a few tips at the halfway stage of their four rounds, which started at 5.30am and were completed at 7.30pm.
Mike was joined by Derek Ashford, Tony Doidge and David Whaley and the team scores were a creditable 87, 95, 86 and 81 which together with their fundraising total — which has already topped £1,800 and rising — goes forward into a national competition.
