Ex-Remploy staff on the scrapheap
Date published: 21 June 2013
MORE than 1,000 disabled workers made redundant by the Government’s decision to shut Remploy factories remain out of work, new figures show.
Work and pensions minister Esther McVey said 1,522 people lost their jobs in the closures; 1,100 had taken up the offer of support to find another job.
Jobs have been found for 462 employees, 386 of whom are in work.
Back in December, the Department of Work and Pensions revealed that only 13 of the 109 Remploy staff working in the axed Oldham factory had found new jobs.
The Chronicle has since reported on the opening of 4D Enterprises in Shaw, which has taken on 22 former Remploy staff.
