Jamie’s parents Michelle and Kenny and their friends are trying to raise £50,000 to provide playground equipment at Bullcote park, where the youngster took his first steps.

Saturday’s eventat Royton Cricket Club had live music, a barbecue and many other attractions, including a special DJ set from Clint Boon and a headline performance from this year’s X-Factor hopeful Anthony Horricks.

Kenny Heaton said: “It has taken a lot of organising and we are all shattered from working so hard but it will be worth it.”

Michelle’s aunt Sylvia Robinson said: “We think between 3,000-5,000 people turned up, which is fantastic.” The event raised around £7,000.
