OLDHAM Council has completed its annual accounts in record time.
It is thought to be the first local authority - by several weeks - to publish approved figures for 2012/13.
The Audit Commission says the council is in a strong position. Council leader Jim McMahon said underspending in a climate of significant cuts was “no mean feat”.
He added: “It wasn’t managing business as usual. It was making sure the cuts were realistic and deliverable. It is clear there is financial discipline well embedded in the organisation. This hasn’t always been the case.”
Oldham Council’s accounts preparation was recognised as the best in the country by the Audit Commission in 2011.
