Sample puts them on scent of cannabis
RESIDENTS were caught with cannabis by police in Chadderton.
But it was just part of PC Simon Dalby’s cunning plan at the latest Homewatch meeting.
The officer from Chadderton Neighbourhood Policing Team took along a sample of the drug to the meeting to allow residents to become familiar with its distinctive smell.
The experience was well received by residents, many of whom had never smelt the drug before.
PC Dalby said: “Cannabis has a pungent aroma but if you’ve never experienced it before, it’s unlikely you’d know that drug cultivating was taking place in your neighbourhood.
“By giving residents the opportunity to become familiar with it they will know what signs to look out for and can report anything suspicious to the police.”
To report drugs cultivation call Greater Manchester Police on 101.
The Chadderton District Home Watch meeting takes place at 7.30pm on the second Tuesday of each month at the Wellbeing Centre.
