DIY store makes cut

THE new owners of a building that was home to a derelict pub have been granted permission to turn it into a retail store and apartment.
The ground floor of 633 Ripponden Road - formerly the Village Inn - will now be turned into a DIY shop, while the first floor will be turned into a home.
Councillor Dave Houle said: “This will create something which is fully sustainable — turning a building into a shop and apartment. It is brilliant we are able to do this. This could create 10 jobs, it makes sense.”
The building had been subject to complaints that work on refurbishment had started before permission was granted, which the owner denied.
