DRINKERS at a Shaw pub will be able to enjoy their food and drink outdoors - despite a barrage of complaints from nearby residents.
Owners of JD Wetherspoon pub the Shay Wake in Shaw asked for permission to provide an outdoor “beer garden” until 8pm each night on a 12 month trial.
The plans were blasted by Shaw and Crompton parish councillors who said the move would disturb residents just yards away. Locals quickly submitted objections to the plan.
But councillors last night agreed to the trial, providing that staff check for an halt rowdy behaviour.
Jamie Piper for the pub chain told the committee: “We have spent time employing a noise consultant and looking at our general management of the beer garden. The temporary route would allow the situation to be monitored. We’ll show there is no noise disturbance and that the rear exit is only used for emergencies, not for people to file out of the pub.”
Councillor Mark Alcock opposed the move: “I have welcomed this business to Shaw — it has made improvements to the area. But the pub has managed for two years without a beer garden and people don’t want their peace disturbed.”
