Pupil’s teacher strike protest

A teenager staged a one-pupil protest against the controversial teachers strike yesterday which saw schools close across the borough.
Thomas Hulme turned out with placards declaring “students against strikes” and “for the sake of the children” at his school, Crompton House in Shaw.
The fed-up 14 year old said he sympathised with teachers who staged the one-day walkout across the North-West.
But he added: “I do not believe it is appropriate that teachers should strike.
“Who is it going to affect most? It is going to affect young people like me.
“At times like this we have to tighten our belts. We have to have the same spirit as we had in the war and get on with it.”
Mum Deborah said: “He is very interested in politics and he has been to Parliament. He has strong views and I support him.”
