It’s a carnival atmosphere

It was all smiles for the thousands who filled Alexandra Park yesterday as the People’s Carnival provided an afternoon of free fun for all the family.
The seventh annual event offered something for everyone, from donkey rides and inflatables for the little ones, to archery lessons for the sporty adults.
For those who don’t think Sundays are the day of rest, a Zumba marathon and Tae Kwando classes provided the opportunity for some exercise, while those who preferred to kick back and relax took a seat on the grass and basked in the warm weather while music and dance acts took centre spot on the Rootz Stage to perform.
There was plenty of food on offer, with stalls selling hot dogs, burgers, jacket potatoes and fish and chips, plus chefs from popular Indian restaurant Blue Tiffin popped by to deliver some exotic delicacies.
Just like every year, the United Kingdom Dance Troup Championships, organised by M.A.N.E.C.C.O took place, while the Carnival Parade showed off the Failsworth Rose Queens, plus Oldham Athletic mascot Chaddy the Owl.
A massive funfair with exhilarating rides and games was on offer for the daredevils, while the more faint hearted could enjoy a host of charity, commercial and craft stalls.
Simon Cook, a member of Voluntary Action Oldham who had a stall at the event, said: “This is all about good causes in Oldham. The rain held off and it’s all gone very well.
“We’ve met loads of lovely people who have had fun, and we’ve all managed to raise some money.
“There is a huge amount of good stuff going on in Oldham, and these events are made for the people of the borough.”
