Palace date for Mahdlo duo

Date published: 05 July 2013

TWO lucky Mahdlo members will soon make their way to Buckingham Palace to rub shoulders with royalty and chat to business owners about the advantages of investing in youth charities.

Cameron Boland (17) and 14-year-old Nelson Miller will travel to London to meet the Duke of York as part of his Backing Youth scheme, which aims to get private-sector businesses more involved in youth charities, such as Mahdlo, and youth enterprises. The pair have been chosen by the Mahdlo team to represent the youth zone, as they are two people who have benefited most from the variety of activities the youth zone has to offer.

Laura Windsor-Welsh, youth work manager, said: “Cameron is a student at Oldham College.

“He’s been a member of the Young People’s Development Team since the very start of Mahdlo and has been involved in a lot of the decisions that were made about what would happen here. He also does a lot of work with the family sessions we run at weekends. Nelson, who goes to Royton and Crompton School, is part of our young persons’ enterprise ‘Always Present’. He has done a lot of fund-raising for Mahdlo and the young people here.

“We felt these two young lads represented everything that Mahdlo stands for.”

The duo will speak to business owners about how youth zones work, and how they benefit the younger generation, when they make their trip on Tuesday.
