OLDHAM Council’s business partner Mouchel has celebrated its 125th anniversary by supporting young people.

To commemorate the milestone, the business known as the Unity Partnership has donated the cost of 125 annual memberships to the Mahdlo Youth Zone.

The memberships will be gifted to young people across the borough not yet taking up the use of the centre.

Mahdlo’s state-of-the-art facilities provide a wealth of activities for young people across the borough and, with the support of local businesses, delivers activities of the highest standard at a heavily-subsidised cost to young people, making the centre accessible to all.

Terry Flanagan, chair of the board for Mahdlo, said: “Mahdlo is having a really positive impact on the Oldham community.

“We are keen to explore with local partners like Unity Partnership how we can successfully work together in order to offer the best support and provision for young people.”

Mahdlo is a registered charity and relies upon the generosity of individual donors and business sponsorship to keep running.

Oldham Council began its joint venture with private company Mouchel back in May, 2007, to improve public services, driving efficiencies and decreasing costs.

The joint venture with Unity Partnership also makes a significant contribution to the wider regeneration agendas of the council. In recent years, the venture’s work in this respect has largely focused on supporting young people in gaining training and employment.

The business currently provides a range of work experience, mentoring, training and apprenticeship opportunities for young people working in partnership with schools, colleges and various other voluntary organisations.
