OLDHAM Sixth-Form College students put more than 250 pupils through their paces with a series of physical challenges and sporting competitions.
Seven schools took part in the Junior Super Athlete Day at the college.
All the activities were planned and run by the teenagers who are studying sports leadership at the college. They included rowing, basketball, hockey skills and sprinting.
The winners were presented with medals and the sports leaders also made certificates for the participants.
College principal Jayne Clarke said: “I am delighted that we one once again held our Junior Super Athlete Day, having done so very successfully for many years previously.
“It gives our students and the primary school pupils a chance to work together, raising their activity and skill levels and having great fun along the way.
“Our sports department and all the students involved commit a great deal to the planning and delivery of this event.”
The event was one of more than 400 free Asda Active Sports Days taking place in the UK this summer with the charity Sports Leaders UK. The charity trains and supports over 100,000 volunteers a year in programmes such as this.
Linda Plowright, CEO of Sports Leaders UK, said: “Adopting the right habits and attitudes early on in life is key and what Sports Leaders UK is doing goes to the heart of this initiative, helping to improve health and wellbeing among the young — and making it fun, too.”
