A truly cosmic experience is promised at series of concerts held at the famous Jodrell Bank in Cheshire.

Manchester music legends New Order and The Halle will headline two of four shows this summer, held in the shadow of the iconic Lovell Telescope at the University of Manchester’s Jodrell Bank Observatory.

The Live from Jodrell Bank series starts this weekend, with a show on Saturday from tribute band The Australian Pink Floyd, with a celebration of the 40th anniversary of “Dark Side of the Moon”. Support acts include Hawkwind, The Time & Space Machine, and The Lucid Dream.

On Sunday, New Order head a line-up they have personally chosen, including Johnny Marr, The Whip, Public Service Broadcasting, Tom Middleton, Jake Evans, and Hot Vestry.

The concerts continue next month when Icelandic post-rock act Sigur Ros headline on Friday, August 30, with support from Daughter, Poliça, and Nik Colk Void (Factory Floor).

And finally, on Saturday, August 31, the music becomes truly celestial when the The Halle Orchestra presents “Close Encounters: An Evening Of Classical Music Inspired By The Stars”, which ranges from Holst’s “The Planets” to music from sci-fi and space movies.

Festival goers can spend the daytime participating in hands-on experiments and workshops, meeting those involved in cutting edge science technology.
