Workforce relief in Sellers buy-out

Date published: 04 July 2013

AN engineering company which succumbed to voluntary administration only five months ago has announced it is to be acquired by one of the country’s leading environmental equipment suppliers, protecting the jobs of a whole workforce.

Chadderton-based Sellers has received the investment from Taylor, the world’s largest manufacturer of four-wheeled galvanised steel bins, on-street recycling containers and continental bins, used by almost every local authority in the country.

Bosses at the Drury Lane firm — which manufactures large-scale waste and recycling products including bins and skips — have now been able to promise job security to their 67-strong workforce who have faced a tumultuous five months, and are even looking to expand their team once a strategy has been developed by partner companies.

Clive Gallagher, currently managing director at Sellers, will now join the Taylor Group executive team in a move which aims to enhance service for customers of both brands, and to offer a comprehensive solution for any waste company requiring advice on how best to manage their collection and storage requirements.

He said: “This a great move for the business, and it is great for the workforce as well, because Taylor is going to invest in us.

“The last five months have been tough. We went through a difficult patch but we have got back running, at a profitable rate.

“We have a workforce of 67. We did lose one or two, but that was of their own volition, we didn’t get rid of anyone.

“There’s a great synergy going on between our two companies — we will be concentrating on being a provider of the larger products but a proper strategy is yet to be finalised. There will definitely be a lot more exporting products abroad thanks to this investment.”
