OLDHAM has been named as one of the places most affected by rising levels of immigration.
Home Office researchers assessed the impact of immigration by conducting a survey of local authorities and service providers.
The report found asylum seekers, refugees and low-skilled immigrants had the biggest impact on industrial towns with high levels of unemployment, including Oldham.
It also found immigrants were more likely to be involved in anti-social behaviour, create longer waiting times at GP surgeries and lead to pest-control issues because of overcrowding.
Immigration Minister Mark Harper said: “This report emphasises the importance of protecting our public services and taking a robust approach against those who come here to exploit our welfare system.”
