THE son of murdered soldier Lee Rigby is set to benefit from a fundraiser held in his dad’s honour.
A fun day at the Hathershaw Hotel in Ashton Road, Oldham, raised £5,500, which will be split between two-year-old Jack Rigby and the Help for Heroes charity.
Landlady Melissa Royales — who organised the event with the blessing of one of her regulars — Lee’s father Philip McClure - said the response was amazing: “We were overwhelmed with the generosity and the money raised on the day,” she said.
“There are so many people to thank - most of all the community that showed even in the worst hardship, pain, anger and frustration, we can still all pull together and make a wonderful thing happen.”
Melissa’s fundraising isn’t over yet. On Saturday the pub will stage a sponsored bike ride to Southport and back to raise more.
The funeral of drummer Lee, who lived at Langley, will be held in Bury on Friday.
