STRAIGHT TALK: Tony Lloyd (far right), with Oldham divisional commander Chief Superintendent Catherine Hankinson, and Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy
ANTI-SOCIAL behaviour is the main concern of Oldhamers, a special meeting with local police chiefs has found.
Greater Manchester’s Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd, Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy and divisional commander Chief Supt Catherine Hankinson faced the public at Oldham Civic Centre.
Several issues were raised during the meeting – with persistent anti-social behaviour a major concern.
Mr Lloyd said: “We face huge challenges because of the reckless Government cuts to policing and other public services.
“We need to transform how we work together and build closer links with Home Watch, residents’ associations and community groups. Making communities safer begins and ends with local people.
“We need your support.”
Sir Peter Fahy echoed his comments: “A lot of our work is repeat demand,” he said. “Often it’s the same families causing the same problems time and time again. This is an issue we need to work better with partners to solve.”
Chief Supt Hankinson told the meeting: “I understand your frustration and I totally agree that we need to give you the confidence that we will listen and help.
“We are working with the council, housing associations and other agencies to tackle it. Unfortunately it’s not a quick fix.”
The meeting was covered on Twitter and can be replayed at www.gmpcc.org.uk/talktotony.
