Police appeal over Lee’s funeral
Date published: 10 July 2013
GREATER Manchester Police is asking wellwishers to line specially-designated roads when the funeral of soldier Lee Rigby is held on Friday.
Lee (22), from Middleton, will be laid to rest at a service at Bury Parish Church from 11am, followed by a private family burial.
Officers are working with Bury and Rochdale councils to designate suitable roads for members of the public to stand as they pay their respects. Rochdale Road, Bury - from the town centre to Heap Bridge - is the preferred location for those who wish to pay their respects as Drummer Rigby’s body leaves the church, or Hollin Lane between Langley Lane and Rochdale Road as the cortege travels through Middleton. Members of the public are asked to line the roads between 11.30am and 12.15pm.
People are also asking mourners to stick to these areas in an attempt to avoid congestion elsewhere.
