Phil proposes to Joanne in front of 6,500 people
A CHOIR leader revealed more than a love of rock ’n’ roll when he shocked a packed concert in Liverpool.
Phil Reynolds, who leads Rock Choir members in Oldham, Rochdale, Middleton and Hyde, popped the question to his girlfriend of three years on stage in front of a 6,500-strong crowd at the Liverpool Arena.
It was the choir’s biggest performance yet — and Joanne Gent won’t forget the occasion in a hurry either.
Love-struck Phil, who was head of music at Counthill School for three years, shocked her and thousands of watchers when he got down on one knee during the show!
Music teacher Joanne — who was sitting in the audience — had no idea about her partner’s romantic plan. The bumper crowd, including Liverpool Mayor Gary Millar, held their breath as they waited for her response - and erupted into applause when she said yes.
“I’ve never been so nervous in my life; I’m so happy Joanne said yes,” said Phil. “I wanted to make this a marriage proposal neither of us would ever forget.
“Nothing could top asking Joanne to marry me in front of all those people. I wanted to get thousands cheering for her.“
Rock Choir is the UK’s largest contemporary choir with more than 16,000 members.
Its award-winning founder and director Caroline Redman Lusher and her team spent months planning “Rock Choir Live!” which brought together choir members from across the North of England and Scotland.
