A DETERMINED fund-raiser will be running a gruelling 325 miles from Oldham to Scotland in four days for Cancer Research after losing two grandparents to the disease.

In January, Tony Muir (31) will be running more than 81 miles a day, the equivalent of three marathons in 24 hours, as he makes his way to Aberdeen, the home of his late grandfather.

As if the challenge wasn’t difficult enough, Tony, a technical co-ordinator for Glossop-based food import company What Next Candy, will also be carrying a tent with him for the entire journey so he can camp under the stars and get a good night’s sleep after each day.

The superhuman Fitton Hill resident said: “After suffering a very difficult 2011 and losing two grandparents to cancer within an eight-month period, I have been undertaking challenges in order to raise money to help with the fantastic work the charities do.”

Tony has already completed several long-distance events, including the Manchester Marathon, but this will be his hardest to date.

His punishing training regime will see him run up to 15 miles on a few days each week, before gradually increasing to an incredible 60 miles a day.

Tony, a member of Oldham and Royton Harriers, will be starting his journey on January 16 and hopes to reach his destination on January 20, his grandfather’s birthday.
