Boy breaks leg in reservoir rescue
A TEENAGER with serious leg injuries was dramatically rescued from Dovestone reservoir in Greenfield on Saturday.
It is unclear if the 14-year-old boy jumped, slipped or was pushed from rocks, from which crowds of young people were “tombstoning” into the water.
The boy, who reportedly suffered a broken leg and severe cuts, was pulled to safety by a rescue boat from the nearby sailing club. He remained conscious as he was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital by ambulance.
Eyewitnesses said at least 150 young people had ignored warning signs and were swimming and jumping into the reservoir.
Firefighters from Mossley and Oldham, a boat from the specialist water incident unit at Eccles and members of Oldham Mountain Rescue Team all attended.
