Untold story of Moors horror on my patch

A FORMER Chronicle journalist has described how he reported on the horror of the Moors Murders for a new three-part documentary series.
Starting tonight on Channel 5, “Myra Hindley: The Untold Story” explores the killer’s early life and childhood. Ian features in part two.
Back in October 1965 Ian was due to cover the usually quiet Saddleworth patch for the Chronicle but said he would report on anything that happened in the area over the weekend before his official starting date.
The now-retired reporter said: “I got the call early on Sunday morning saying the first body had been found on the moors. I headed up there with other journalists to see the precise spot and do some interviews.
“I wrote a relatively small piece for the front page - my first article for the newspaper - but even from that first call I knew it was the beginning of one for the country’s most infamous murder cases.”
The documentary starts with “The Brady Factor” at 8pm.
