A 90-year-old Glodwick woman bravely chased two conmen out of her home with her walking stick.
Two men claimed they needed to turn her water off when they knocked at her home in the Fenny Hill area. But the woman quickly realised something was wrong and chased them away.
Police inspector Alan Humphries said afterwards: “This woman showed incredible bravery to chase the two conmen out of her home.”
The victim heard an aftenoon knock at the door and a man she had never seen before claimed he had moved in next door and needed to turn her water off.
The woman asked for his identification but the man and his accomplice barged into the house.
One of them said he needed to check the water stopcock but both then started to rifle through her cupboards. She raised her walking stick and chased them out before they could take anything.
The victim said afterwards: “I urge elderly people to be more careful than me and not to hesitate in contacting the police if they have any trouble.”
