The tipped rubbish that led to Sabina Akhtar
A WOMAN who dumped bin bags after claiming the local recycling centre was shut has been fined a total of £685.
Oldham Council’s enforcement officers were called to Hargreaves Street, Westwood in January after a local business owner reported the rubbish dump. An officer found correspondence in the bags that led to Sabina Akhtar of Richmond Walk.
She said she had cleared out her home and asked a younger family member to walk to Arkwright Street Waste and Recycling Centre to throw bin bags away. When they found the centre closed, the bags were dumped at the end of Hargreaves Street with other rubbish already tipped there. The defendant failed to ask if the bags had been disposed of properly.
Miss Akhtar pleaded guilty to one charge of fly-tipping and was fined £165 and order to pay costs of £520.
