Thunder and frightening
Date published: 24 July 2013
YESTERDAY was Oldham’s wettest in over a year, according to Chronicle weatherman Damian Rodgers.
The town endured the fall of 46mm of rain — the highest figure since June 2012.
The local weather expert said the thunderstorms had been the most violent in the town since July 2006.
The freak weather caused havoc for commuters when a spectacular lightning bolt struck Piccadilly train station. Passengers faced long delays after signalling equipment was damaged during the early-morning strike.
Thunderstorms are expected to return to Oldham tomorrow, with bands of heavy rain sweeping the North-West.
