Duped woman hands over £500
Date published: 29 July 2013
A pensioner was duped into giving £500 to a man who claimed he had done work on her home.
The man deceived the elderly woman into getting into his car and then drove her home and forced her to give him the cash for the work.
The woman was standing at a bus stop on Foxdenton Lane in Chadderton at lunchtime on July 24 when the man pulled up in a black car and told her she still owed him money for guttering work he had done a year ago.
Confused, the woman got into his car and they drove to her home, where she gave him £500.
He is described as being white, about 5ft 4in tall, of a plump build, in his 40s with very short hair. He was wearing a light-coloured T-shirt and trousers.
The police are appealing to anyone, particularly anyone near the bus stop opposite Swanmill Garage, who saw this man and his car. Contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
