AWARD: Shazia Afzal, business enterprise manager at the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy at Oldham College, with Prince Andrew (right) and “Dragons’ Den” star Peter Jones
A MANAGER helping to develop the next generation of entrepreneurs has been honoured by one of the best in the business.
Shazia Afzal was awarded the Business Enterprise Manager of the Year title at the annual Peter Jones Enterprise Academy awards by the Duke of York and Mr Jones.
Shazia works at the academy based at Oldham College — one of 38 around the country founded by the “Dragons’ Den” TV show to educate young entrepreneurs.
Shazia was recognised for the support she gives students in finding them work placements and mentors.
The delighted winner said: “It is extra special because the students nominated me. My work starts even before they arrive at the academy.
“I have already helped two students who are starting in September, introducing them to business mentors to help their businesses progress. I am passionate about giving them as many great opportunities as I can.”
Gavin Bell, one of the students who nominated Shazia, said: “She does so much for the academy behind the scenes and she is so passionate about it. I couldn’t think of a better person to win, and that’s why I voted for her.”
