Road funding snub won’t scupper scheme

DEVELOPERS say their controversial £100 million proposals for 500 houses and a business park at Foxdenton in Chadderton will continue despite a failed bid to get funding for an access road.
Developers Foxdenton LLP submitted outline plans for the huge open space at the corner of Broadway and Foxdenton Lane last week, but were told their bid for £2.67 million from the Government towards the £4.46 million cost of an access road had been turned down.
Foxdenton LLP will press ahead and fund the road itself.
The partnership’s Michael Coulter said : “We suspect the bid was unsuccessful because the development was at too early a stage. The final proposals don’t rely on that funding and the scheme won’t be adversely affected.”
