Shaw swimmers in at the deep end

SWIMMERS in Shaw are being short-changed at Crompton Pool according to a local councillor.
Problems at the deep end mean swimmers at the Farrow Street pool — known locally as Shaw baths — can only use part of the pool.
He added: “Nothing has been agreed yet over a new site for Crompton Pool and the council promised they would keep the old facility up and running until the new one opens.
“It feels like they are now backing out of this promise.
“I am worried that they will say it is too expensive to fix the problems at the current site but it could be two years until we get the new pool and it just isn’t fair to the people of Shaw.”
Hundreds of people vented their anger when plans were announced to close the existing Crompton Pool last year.
An action group was set up to fight the decision and opposition councillors demanded a full review.
Councillor Jean Stretton, Cabinet member for co-operatives and neighbourhoods, said: “The pool is still open to the public and swimmers can still use the whole of the pool.
“The council is investigating the problem and we will let users know as soon as we have any news.”
