Eight days on the buses

MICHAEL Meilron and Jeremy Howat have a really long bus trip ahead of them . . .

They are travelling 1,200 miles over eight days on scheduled buses to get from Land’s End to John O’Groats for charity.

But the charity is dear to their hearts: they hope to raise £20,000 for the Make a Wish Foundation. Jeremy’s daughter, Cariad Rose (9) came up with the idea to raise the cash as she has Spinal Muscular Atrophy — a life-limiting condition — and wanted to help other sick children. The money the pair make will also send her to Disney World.

The men work for Hollinwood-based Omnibus, which makes bus management software for companies nationwide.

The challenge, in October, has had support from bus companies who have offered free bus and rail passes along the way.

The trip won’t be a direct one to John O’Groats: first stop will be Ipswich! A bus firm offered free tickets if they diverted from the norm and went via Suffolk.

The two will make overnight stops in Bridport, Bracknell, Ipswich, Derby, Lancaster (via Oldham) Dundee and Inverness.

Michael said: “This is our strength, route and schedule planning, so we should find that we’ve done the hard work and the easy bit will be sitting on these various local buses enjoying the view.”
