Arthur White 100 today
A great sense of humour and a spot of gardening are what keep Arthur White feeling young.
The Shaw resident turns 100 today surrounded by friends and family.
Arthur was born in Oldham but moved to Shaw and at 13 began work at Lilac cotton mill and A & A mill in Crompton.
At 27 Arthur did his National Service, returning to work at Osram Mill for the rest of his working life.
He married Edith in 1937 at Shaw Church and they enjoyed 73 years together until she died in 2010. They have a daughter, Norma, four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Norma said her father is as energetic as ever.
“He’s taken up drawing, and he likes gardening. He’s always had a brilliant sense of humour.”
