Creative cakes, moreish muffins and incredible icing made the Great Oldham Bake Off a resounding success.
Organised by Voluntary Action Oldham (VAO), which worked together with the Talking Point Exhibition Centre, Scouthead, bakers and cake-eaters alike were invited to bring along and try out sweet treats, to raise money for local good causes.
The event was designed to replicate the BBC hit show “Great British Bake Off”, which has resulted in thousands of previously kitchen-shy Brits reaching for the flour, sugar and eggs to test their cake-making skills.
And from a bumper number of entries, the winner was announced as Gillian Froggatt, of Grotton, who entered her creative take on a carrot cake.
She was given £100 to donate to a charity of her choice — Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.
Simon Cooke, a member of VAO, said: “We had a good number of entries, and about 50 people came to watch. We all ate cake and had a great time — plus we raised money for local good causes.”
