‘We’ll remember this day forever’
A FORMER Oldham couple who emigrated to Australia 46 years ago have renewed their wedding vows with a small group of friends who shared their original special day in 1967.

Last week we shared the story of Arnold and Liz Andrew, who married in Oldham Parish Church over four decades ago before emigrating to Australia. Having travelled back to the UK to renew their vows, they appealed for original wedding quests to get in touch.

And in a touching service led by the Revs Derek Palmer and Jean Hurlston on Sunday, the pair reaffirmed their love with eight guests — two of whom heard about the special event through the Chron.

Arnold and Liz, who lived in Scouthead before moving away, were delighted with the turnout.

Arnold (67) said: “We’ve had such a lovely day. It was just as special as we thought it would be. We have four friends here we’ve kept in touch with, but on top of that two people we’d lost touch with saw the story and came along.

“We also had emails from four people saying they had seen the story and couldn’t make it but wished us luck. It has brought us all back together again.”

“This was supposed to be something just for us, but after we told our story it’s grown and grown and we’ve been able to share it with some special people so we’re very grateful.”

Arnold added: “To be able to do this has been wonderful. The church has been so welcoming, and has really helped us. Everything has come flooding back, but we’ll also remember this day forever.”
