TODAY’S A-level celebrations are all the more satisfying for a determined Oldham teenager who overcame a rare brain malformation to receive fantastic results.
North Chadderton sixth former Rhys Smith battled a rare medical condition which meant he missed classes and struggled to keep up with the workload. But the brave pupil earned his passes and will be heading to university in the autumn.
One of the highest fliers is 18-year-old Elizabeth Leason.
The Blue Coat student said she was “overwhelmed” at receivinh five A* grades.
Newman College declared a 100 per cent pass rate with head teacher Mike McGhee saying he was “delighted”.
