THE Christie Hospital is taking cancer treatment closer to people’s homes with the launch of a mobile chemotherapy unit.
The £700,000 truck will, from October, be stationed in locations across Greater Manchester including Failsworth, where specialist staff will treat patients.
The service is being funded by charity The Christie and will provide care for around 100 patients a week on a regular location schedule.
Chief executive at The Christie, Caroline Shaw, said it will benefit patients who currently travel to Withington for treatment.
The unit will have four treatment chairs, so up to 20 patients can be treated each day.
Christie patients who live in Failsworth can find out if they are eligible to be treated in the mobile unit should contact chemotherapy project lead Danielle Longworth on 0161-918 7671.
