MICHAEL MEACHER: radical and fundamental change needed
OLDHAM MP Michael Meacher is to release his fifth book before the annual Labour party conference later this month.
And he hopes it will push Labour to set an alternative to the Tory-led coalition.
The State We Need: Keys to the Renaissance of Britain sees the MP explore the economy, environment and finance and offers alternatives to the current status quo.
“British domestic policy needs radical and fundamental change, not just some minor tweaking, because the course on which all the country’s major institutions are currently set is simply unsustainable.”
The book discusses how the financial sector has pursued its own interests leading to an enormous rise in inequality. It also looks at mental illness, murder, the rising prison population, teenage pregnancies, obesity and numeracy and literacy rates, and possible solutions.
