CELEBRATION: Students at Oldham Sixth Form College with their results

A-LEVELS: OLDHAM Sixth Form College is delighted with the fantastic results of its students. The college scored a 98.4 per cent pass rate — above the national average of 98.1.

The college also saw a rise of almost two per cent in the top grades compared with last year: 73.6 per cent received A*-C grades.

An impressive 95 A* grades were achieved by college students, while vocational courses hit a perfect 100 per cent pass rate.

Jayne Clarke, college principal, said: “I am always incredibly proud of the fantastic results achieved by so many students at OSFC.”

Emily Duthie got three A*s and an A in history, English literature, philosophy and politics.

She said: “I’m glad the wait is over. I’m looking forward to going to Durham and starting my history degree.”

Matthew Jamshed attained two A* and two As in biology, chemistry, physics and maths and will study chemistry at Keble College, Oxford.

He said: “I took difficult subjects so I’m really pleased I’ve got the grades I needed.”

Sadir Chowdhury got an A* and two As in law, physics and history after gaining nothing higher than a C at GCSE level and will start a law degree at Manchester in September.

He said: “I have to say a big thank-you to the teachers who have helped me turn my grades around.

“I’m delighted with my results and glad that the hard work has paid off.”

The principal added: “All the students can be proud of their achievements.
