Seized car recovered with forged document
Date published: 20 August 2013
A Shaw man has been disqualified from driving and given a 12 month community order after falsely using a policeman’s details to get his car back.
Asad Amin (21), of Milnrow Road, Shaw, was cautioned by a police officer in July for driving without insurance. The car, a Subaru Impreza, was towed away and Amin told to take his documents to police for checking.
Amin instead paid £30 to a family friend who got the document signed and stamped. Amin got his car back after paying a £150 release fee.
But three days later the same officer saw the car back on the road, checked with the recovery service and the officers who had supposedly signed the seizure notice, and realised Amin hadn’t been to Ashton police station and none of the officers knew anything about the matter.
Amin - banned from driving for six months in 2010 for dangerous driving and no insurance - admitted the signature had been forged.
Amin was ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work, and pay £325 in a fine and costs.
