LIFESAVER: chairman of Manchester Lifesaving Society Bill Hughes presents Kirsty Fraser with a certificate for her bravery
A LIFESAVER who followed in her sister’s footsteps by saving a man’s life has been rewarded for her actions by the Lifesaving Society.
Kirsty Fraser was handed the award on Monday for rushing to help Stephen Jones (55), who was hit by a car in Middleton Road, Chadderton in June.
And she’s not the only lifesaver in the family: her sister Donna Anderson saved the life of baby Ellie Ogden at Chadderton Pool in 2006.
Oldham College student Kirsty works at Chadderton Wellbeing Centre and Royton Sports Centre and has trained as a lifeguard.
Kirtsy, who received the award from the Lifesaving Society’s Manchester chairman Bill Hughes, revealed she only realised the significance of her actions afterwards.
Kirsty saw that Mr Jones had a head injury so provided vital care for eight minutes until emergency services arrived.
“I am always aware that I may have to put my training into action,” she said. “It’s not something that you think about when it’s happening. I’m just glad I kept my nerve.”
