MP hits out over school facilities

OLDHAM MP Debbie Abrahams has accused the Government of a cavalier attitude over education facilities in Saddleworth.
The Oldham East and Saddleworth MP spoke of the issues around the building of a new Saddleworth School for up to 1,500 students.
She told a public meeting the area wanted a school “fit for the 21st century”.
“As a regular visitor I know only too well the constraints of the existing school buildings. The deal offered the school and the council is far from ideal. Just under £15m is being allocated for the school building, which doesn’t cover any additional costs such as relocation or new equipment.
“This also needs to be seen in the context of the £4m that has been given to set up a so-called ‘Free School’ in Chadderton for just 60 pupils.
“The Government has dictated the site and the timescale, with a ‘take it or leave it’ ultimatum. I have been appalled at the cavalier attitude.”
